Capri pants are making a comeback – what do the editors think?

Capri pants – yes or no

Lengths are one of the most sensitive topics in fashion. Especially when it comes to trousers, one of the most heated and interesting debates is about the ¾ length. In other words: To Capri or not to Capri?

It turns out that even among the editors at Fashion Inside, no one can remain indifferent on the topic. In the lines that follow, we present a few opinions on the controversial aesthetic of this style.

Capri pants are quite a controversial style. Although they’re a fashion classic (if we look at their history), their length and cut demand long legs and a harmonious figure—otherwise, you risk looking like a walking pear. I’ve never liked them—neither in the ’90s when they were all the rage, nor now, as they try once again to find a place in our wardrobes. They remind me of something that was started but left unfinished. Overall, I’m not a fan of in-between lengths. For me, it’s either mini or maxi, please!

When it comes to the classic Capri style, in my opinion, the length and cut matter down to the last centimeter. There are very few designs that can actually make the figure look flattering and the legs appear longer. In this case, only the right shoes can save the look. Best not to take them off. A kitten heel will be your most reliable ally here.

However, when we’re talking about the wider styles of pants that fall below the knee, I think they deserve the recognition they’ve earned over the years. They come and go, but the impression they leave behind is one of a memorable play with imagination. I personally love them as part of a suit—they speak to a bolder individuality, even when the context is business. They’re not easy to style, but they can look truly unique, modern, and daring. With socks or without, with sandals, boots, or any other interpretation that inspires you. After all, isn’t that the whole point? Not for all of us to look the same—but to look different.

Mmm… — that was my initial reaction when I saw the headline in Vogue announcing the return of capris. Even I couldn’t quite tell what tone I had or what exactly I was trying to express.

I’ll admit—I got a little startled when I remembered all the interesting (let’s call them that) interpretations of capri leggings from the early 2000s. Especially that one Carrie Bradshaw look with the backward Chanel top. No, no, no.

Despite all that, as a proud Gen Z: if it’s got the vibe — I’m in. If it’s worn with confidence and there’s some niche aesthetic going on in the outfit, go for it.

I realize that every time I’ve actually liked capris, it’s been online. Some TikTok videos with a Y2K vibe—tall skinny girl, Britney playing in the background, cool edits… Capris on the tram, usually styled with a shopping bag and cork sandals—not quite my thing. So I guess it all depends on the reality—that’s my final answer.

Now that I think about it, I actually had a pair of capri pants years ago — in a dark color — and even some jeans in that length. Honestly, it’s hard for me to understand now how or why that was ever possible. Maybe I just liked the name (kidding). I always wore them with high-heeled sandals or platform slides.

My point is—with my 161 cm height, this kind of fashion choice would pretty much border on a small-scale style disaster. I’ll admit, I wouldn’t wear capri pants now, even though there really are clever tricks to make them work for almost any height and body type—not just when it comes to shoes, but also in terms of color combinations. Because let’s face it, not all of us are Audrey Hepburn. Oh—and yes, I even had a purple pair!

Well, it’s clearly a classic love-hate relationship — but the good thing is, it’s staying in the past. At this stage in my life, I definitely prefer dresses.

Do I love them? No. Do I hate them? Please — it’s just clothing, not a political figure. According to my fashion philosophy, anything can be worn, as long as you know how to make it work within your own style.

Will I wear them again? Right now — absolutely not. But capris are like tequila shots — first you laugh at the idea, then you’re like “eh, why not,” and before you know it, you’re two shots in with an unexpected plot twist.

The truth? This type of pant carries an energy that just doesn’t match the concrete aesthetic of Sofia’s streets. They belong in seaside towns with palm trees and pastel facades — or simply on well-kept streets that want to be photographed.
